Flat or Low Slope roofing requires very different technique and expertise than composite shingle roofing. For years about the only system available was a Tar and Gravel roof, good for up to about 15 years. Those roofs are virtually extinct now, but there are still some people installing them today. The last 10-15 years we have seen many changes in the flat roof market. The best performing flat roof systems today are a TPO or PVC System. These current systems, as a roof replacement, require not only the knowledge but a lot of recent experience to be done properly. The questions you should be asking any contractor you consider are:
- Do they install it on a regular basis or only once in a while?
- Can they provide recent references that you can call or go visit?
- Are they certified by the manufacturers they install?
Improper installation will void any warranties from the manufacturer so you want to be certain your contractor is certified in the product they are installing OR repairing.
